Based on a very informal poll of 50 people, Lake Orion residents are puzzled by the new red bicycles placed around downtown.
Few know what the bikes are supposed to do, if anything. Some think they are art. ‘I wasn’t really sure what they were,? said bicycling fanatic Dustin Will. ‘I figured since so many people rode around downtown that they were there for decoration.?
They actually have a more practical use – designed to be bike racks for people visiting downtown businesses. People can lock their bikes to the red bikes that are bolted into the ground.
The red bicycles can be found on the corners of Flint Street and Lapeer Road; Flint Street and Anderson Street; Broadway Street and Shadbolt. Other bikes will be installed soon, when the Streetscape construction is completed.
