A 19-year-old Pontiac resident fled Lake Orion Police and was later arrested in Pontiac with help from a K9 unit on Nov. 26.
Dante D. Rush was arraigned in front of District Judge Marie Soma on Nov. 27 on charges of fleeing and eluding police and was returned to Oakland County Jail. His bond was $15,000.
‘Any time those lights come on, drivers know you stop the car,? said LOPD Chief Jerry Narsh. ‘When someone flees, everyone is in danger from the officer, to the suspect, to the public. We’ve all ready the horrors involved with police chase crashes, yet the police must, as safely as possible, apprehend those that flee. In this case, traffic was light and the suspect was taken without injuries.?
An officer of the LOPD was on patrol in the early morning on Nov. 26 and he observed a silver pickup truck swerving while traveling southbound on M-24.
The suspect was believed to be an intoxicated driver so the officer activated his lights to initiate a traffic stop and immediately the driver accelerated. He continued south at a high rate of speed and the officer pursued.
The chase went into Pontiac with officers continuing the pursuit. They ended up on Emerson Street where the truck stopped and the occupants fled.
Officers from Pontiac arrived with a K9 unit and the dog tracked the man where he was arrested.
Lake Orion Police took him into custody for third degree fleeing and eluding – a five year felony. He was also found to be operating on a suspended license from a previous conviction.
