Stop and go traffic. Signs warning to merge into another lane.
It must mean construction season is here and has already announced its arrival with barrels along the M-24 and Drahner Road intersection.
Work on the intersection began in late March and is not expected to be finished until the beginning of September.
Most of the work is going to be done on the right hand turning lane heading east on Drahner, said Rob Morosi, Michigan Department of Transportation spokesperson.
The existing turning lane is only 9-feet wide, oversized vehicles end up taking space in the other lanes while they turn.
MDOT will be adding three additional feet and will be adding the extra road needed to both sides of the road so they align with the rest of Lapeer Road.
Another part of the project is adding new turning lights.
‘They will be more visible and safer for everybody,? said Morosi.
The lane closures will only be during off-peak hours and work will be done during the weekend, as well.
As MDOT progresses with the turning lane, lane closures will move around.
Morosi added tips for the construction season.
‘We always like to remind motorists to pay particular attention (in) construction zones,? he said. ‘Especially with the proximity of the workers to the road. Watch for the workers and obey the speed limit.?
They will also work on the sidewalks to have them comply with ADA standards.
The cost of the project is $400,000, according to Morosi.
