The Wolves added one win and one loss to their record over spring break last week in Ohio.
“We did alright,” said Clarkston Boys Varsity Lacrosse Head Coach Brian Kaminskas. “We are starting to come together a little bit more and starting to develop that chemistry. It has been difficult because we have had a slow start to the season. We had a tough time playing in southern Ohio. There are very good teams down there.”
The boys opened Saturday with a close win over the Pinkerington, 9-8.
They took the lead in the first quarter with two goals and kept Pinkerington to zero. By the time both teams broke for half time the Wolves still held the lead, 4-3.
Seniors Kevin Horton and Jordan Kincaid led the game with three goals each. Kincaid aided on one assist. Seniors Sam Moore added two goals and had one assist and Kevin O’Grady added one goal and two assists while sophomore Reid Kaminski had one assist.
The boys continued the day with a loss to Liberty-Olentangy, 11-4. The Wolves were scoreless ending the first half as Olentangy led with seven points.
“They were considerly better,” said Kaminskas. “They had some parts of the game plan that we weren’t necessarily prepared for. Their kids were a little bit hungrier and we were tired. We made a lot of mistakes and we didn’t communicate very well. Their guys took advantage of it like they should have.”
Seniors Kincaid, O’Grady, Travis Craft and Brad Leuenhagen scored one goal each. O’Grady and Connor Ward had one assist.
Senior Evan Kneisel led the defense with four takeaways and three ground balls while junior Preston Haven had four ground balls.
Junior Jordan Stover also had a good weekend as faceoff man for the Wolves.
“He played exceptionally well,” said Kaminskas. “He was one of the guys that kept us going in our loss against Olentangy. He did a very nice job of being the anchor for the team. He kept into it, kept them pumped up and kept working for it. He had a very nice weekend.”
The Wolves take on Bloomfield United and St. Michael’s College – Toronto this week.
“We had a few days off and it gave us some time to fix things from the weekend,” Kaminskas said. “I like our chances going into this weekend against two traditional strong teams. They will be good battles and we have good talent on the team. We have a lot of guys with a lot of skill.”
The boys play at Bloomfield United on Friday. JV begins at 5 p.m. with varsity following as the Varsity B team heads to L’Anse Creuse North.
The Wolves host St. Michael’s College – Toronto on Sunday. JV begins at 10 a.m. and varsity follows.
“We will get rolling into our regular season and have a lot of success,” added Kaminskas.
