Clarkston Rotary members Mary Sloan and Bruce Bordine were invited to Springfield Oaks Community Service Garden open house, Aug. 18, as ‘Guests of Honor.?
The garden was started in 2003. Since then, it has moved to a five-acre location in Springfield Township. Bordine donated the greenhouse, and Clarkston Rotary, under Sloan’s presidency, donated funds. Stepping stones were placed and unveiled in the flower garden at the Service Garden honoring the Clarkston Rotary Club and Bordine Nursery.
The garden is staffed by participants in the Weekend and Weekday Alternative for Misdemeanants program, growing several tons of food for donation to families in need.
