Rotary Club hosting Kilometers 4 Kids to benefit local/national charities

Celebrate the start of summer vacation by joining the fun and excitement of the Kilometers 4 Kids event on’June 13, 2015, at Lake Orion High School.?
For many this is the first’Saturday’of summer vacation and a great way to have fun and support several charities that help children in need.
The Lake Orion Rotary club has a strong history of supporting charities within the Lake Orion community, especially those that focus on kids.?? Fun for runners and walkers of all ages and abilities, Kilometers 4 Kids is the club’s premier event to raise funds needed for the children’s charities in our community.? It features a one-mile fun run/walk and 5K/10K races on a certified course.? The one-mile fun run starts at8:30 a.m.’and the 5K/10K runs at?9 a.m.?
‘Kilometers 4 Kids is unique in that it gives every participant the opportunity to designate the charity of their choice to receive the proceeds from their registration fee.? Persons can select from multiple charities supported by the Lake Orion Rotary Club. These include Blessings in a Backpack ? Lake Orion, the Lake Orion school district ‘s Lamp of Learning academic awards program, Beds for Kids, an international education project to provide a school building to an underdeveloped population,? Lake Orion Community Education, the Oxford/Orion FISH Food Bank and international clean water projects.
‘What better way to start your summer vacation than by running for the kids of our community,? said Kathy Partrick, president of the Lake Orion Rotary Club.? ‘The Rotary Club supports a variety of children’s organizations and they all benefit from people coming out to participate in our race.?
‘The course takes runners/walkers through a combination of paved and dirt roads, with water stops along the way.? All 5K and 10K participants will receive a tech shirt, as well as a Hanson’s Running Shop discount coupon.? All children ages 12 and under will receive a medal to recognize their accomplishment.? There will age division awards for the 5k and 10k races.
?’This race features a certified course which attracts a number of competitive runners, but it also draws plenty of families with children who just want to enjoy some fun and exercise,? said Race Director Marc Guzzardo.? ‘We are expecting a nice turnout.?
Participants are encouraged to register for the race in advance at’kilometers4kids.com.? Race day registration starts at?6:45 a.m., with the first race at?8:30 a.m.? The registration fee for the 5K/10K run is $30 before’June 6’and $35 thereafter. There is a $10 registration fee for the fun run/walk.
