The Rumourz Hair Salon in Lake Orion held their fourth annual benefit for Locks of Love on Feb. 17.
The benefit raised needed funds, along with the 21 ponytails donated to make hair prosthetics. It takes 10-14 ponytails to make one quality hair prosthetic for disadvantaged children with medical hair loss.
Most of the Locks of Love recipients have lost their hair due to a medical condition known as alopecia areata, which has no known cause or cure.
These prostheses help restore their self-esteem and self-confidence, which enables them to face the world and their peers.
A set of 8-year-old twin girls donated their hair for the second time at the Rumourz event. The first time was two years ago, at the second annual Locks of Love benefit.
The winner of the longest ponytail was Diana Kuligowski of Oxford, who had a ponytail measuring 24 inches.
Angela Pasfield of Lake Orion was the second place winner, with a 23-inch pony tail. She received a complete new hairstyle. A total of 260 inches of hair was donated by 21 donors.
The staff at Rumourz consisting of stylists and support staff gave their time and talents to make the benefit a success.
Next year’s Locks of Love benefit at Rumourz will be Feb. 11.
