n Safety path nearly complete: Township Supervisor reported the safety path running from the high school to South Street is near completion, with the exception of the bridge needing sanding. Lapp said the contractor was given a completion date of Sept. 17 and has been sanctioned since then. The Michigan Department of Transportation is also imposing sanctions against the contractor because the landscaping is not complete. Lapp said the landscaping may have to wait until spring.
n Seniors need modems: Township Clerk, Jeannie McCreery announced that the Brandon Senior Center now has 57 computers to donate to area seniors. Volunteer Fred Howard has been refurbishing the donated computers but is unable to install internet programs due to a shortage of modems.
McCreery said anyone looking to donate modems or cash should call Martha Tooley at the Senior Center (248) 627-6678 or Fred Howard at (248) 627-3111.
n Bullfrogs in complete compliance: Supervisor Lapp said the barrier between the commercial property where Bullfrogs is located and the residential area surrounding it has been reestablished with a row of trees to create a sound and visual barrier around the restaurant. The original barrier, ordered by the township, was removed by Bullfrogs owner and replaced upon a second order by the township.
n Bids in for fire department construction: Brandon Fire Chief, Bob McArthur said the bids to construct Fire Station Two on Oakwood Road have been returned to the chief and will be submitted to the board for review at the township meeting on Monday, Nov. 3.
n Neighborly burning: Now is the season for burning yard waste and Fire Chief Bob McArthur would like to remind resident’s that burning permits are required before burning.
“We’ve had a lot of problems of neighbors complaining of burning,” said McArthur.

n Rewriting recreation: Trustee Tom Stowell and Brandon Recreation Supervisor Fred Waybrant will be rewriting the Brandon Recreation Plan. Stowell said they will be looking at scheduling a public hearing for the plan in Feb. 2004.
n Property tax partial payment program: Township Trustee Linda Owen would like to remind residents that the treasurer’s office issues coupons for residents to make partial payments on property taxes.
“It’s a great program,” said Owen “Just call my office and we’ll set it up.”
Summer taxes were due Sept. 15, with a 1 percent interest penalty thereafter. After Feb. 17, 2004 the penalty will increase to 3 percent.

2004 Budget passes: Although three trustees voted “no,” the township 2004 budget passed.
“The revenues are going to be tight this year,” said Supervisor Lapp “Each and every department is going to have to look closely at their spending this year.”
