Residents of the Brandon School District interested in serving on the school board are invited to an informational session planned for 6:30 p.m., Monday, June 25 at the central district office, 1025 S. Ortonville Road.
The school board has three seats up for election this year? two four-year terms currently held by Debbie Schummer and Debbie Brady, and one two-year seat that will complete Rob Privette’s term. Kim Kulaga was appointed to the seat in October after Privette moved from the district.
‘We will be giving people an idea of what the job of a school board member is, the time factor, how we go about doing different things,? said Superintendent Lorrie McMahon.
The deadline to file a petition to be a candidate on the November ballot is 4 p.m., Aug. 14. School board candidates must get a minimum of 40 signatures and maximum of 100 signatures of registered voters within the district or pay a $100 nonrefundable filing fee to be placed on the ballot. Petitions can be picked up at the township clerk’s office, 395 Mill St., but must be filed at the Oakland County Elections Division Office, located in the Oakland County Courthouse, 1200 N. Telegraph, Pontiac.
‘We’re looking for someone that is willing to learn about education, someone that will think through issues and come to a decision that is best for the entire district,? said McMahon.
