Schools host anti-drug program

Kenneth Krygel from the Criminal Justice Training Center at Macomb Community College will discuss teen drug use April 16.
Joyce Neinhuiss, president of Clarkston High School’s PTA, said the program is in response to the growing need to educate parents, guardians and staff on drugs.
‘The program is eye-opening and surprising,? said Neinhuiss.
Krygel will exhibit and explain drug paraphernalia, what they are and how they work. He will discuss ways young adults use the devices, and types of drugs including those used in club and date rape. He will talk about signs and symptoms to look for in teens. A handbook for parents will also be distributed.
‘It opens adult’s eyes to things that they weren’t aware of,? Neinhuiss said. ‘Adults think they may have been savvy in the 70’s, but this is a more up-to-date exposure on what the kids are using nowadays.?
Many adults are unaware of the availability of these drugs and the methods in which they get them. The presentation will help to increase their awareness, she said.
The presentation is the last in a four-part series from January-April. It is the only one children are not allowed to attend ? this is so teens won’t learn ways of getting and using the drugs, she said.
The event will be at Clarkston Junior High School from 12:30-2:30 p.m. All adults in the community are welcome.
‘Just because someone doesn’t have a kid that attends Clarkston schools, doesn’t mean they don’t know a friends kid or have a niece or nephew that attends,? she said.
