Senior center plans fundraising concerts

The Orion Township Senior Center is planning two fundraising concerts for next year in order to raise money for expanding programs and events.
Senior center director Lisa Sokol’s request to the township board to approve spending $9,751 on Classic Productions was approved at the Nov. 21 meeting.
Classic Productions will provide entertainment by The Contours, Danny and the Juniors, and The Drifters for the concerts.
Two shows are tentatively planned for Sept. 16 at 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. at the Lake Orion High School Performing Arts Center.
A meet and greet with the artists would be held after, and the 20 percent commission of CDs and T-shirt sales would be donated to the senior center.
Tickets for the performances would range from $25-45. The auditorium holds about 825 people.
Sokol said the center will partner with WOMC 104.3, and they will provide a DJ to host the event and emcee.
Funds from the event will go towards special events, projects, capital purchases and activities to enhance senior programming.
Funds will also be used to create a fund for holding future concerts. The center also hopes to fund two scholarships for LOHS students who will be entering careers benefiting senior citizens.
