Seven-run fourth helps Martians advance in districts

Goodrich’s varsity baseball team is staying alive in Division III district baseball action.
The Martians outlasted Genesee Area Conference rival LakeVille 14-12 in pre-district action May 30 at Goodrich. The Martians (21-10) are scheduled to take on Linden in district semifinal action Saturday, June 3, with the district final scheduled for later that day.
A seven-run fourth inning by the Martians broke open a 5-5 tie and enabled them to take command of the game 12-5. LakeVille scored one run in the bottom of the fourth, but Goodrich answered with two more runs in the top of the fifth to take a 14-6 lead.
The Falcons scored six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to trim the Goodrich lead, but the Martians held on for the victory. Goodrich helped their cause by walking nine times in addition to tallying 11 base hits.
Bennett Gillam was a key player against the Falcons, going 2-for-4 with a double, home run, three runs scored and three RBI. Dusty Bourassa and Robert Novak each added two hits for the Martians.
