For now, the Lake Orion Lions Club will be able to have a storage shed on property it recently bought. The property, located at the Orion/Miller/Flint intersection, is currently vacant.
Club member Tim Daigle told village council members on Nov. 24 the club isn’t sure what it wants to do with the property.
The property is made up of three parcels — two in Orion Township, one in the village. The township parcels are zoned residential: the village section is zoned commercial.
Daigle said the club will attempt to annex the township property into the village because it only wants to work with one government entity when it finalizes future plans.
Although no building permit will be needed because the shed is already constructed, the club does need permission, because the village’s temporary use provision only allows use for one week.
According to Daigle, the property has been cleaned up since the Lion’s got ownership.
Councilman Harry Stephen was all for allowing the temporary situation. “They’ve been good neighbors,” he said of the club. “And it (the shed) would be easy to take out if there’s a problem.”
Council members gave the Lions the OK to have the shed on the property for six months and then come back to the village to ask for an extension/renewal.
