Ortonville-The Village Skate Park is in danger of not opening again.
The park is scheduled to open for the season May 3, but as of April 20 only had six registrations.
“I need at least 30 sign-ups to recommend to the village council that we open,” said Village Manager
John Lyons, who plans to update the council at their next meeting, April 25. “If we don’t get the sign-ups, the recommendation will be to postpone the opening or eliminate opening altogether.”
The park, located at the corner of Cedar and Ball streets in the village, was only open for half the season last year and was closed entirely in 2014 from a lack of registrations.
There is a fee that accompanies each registration, used to fund the skate park monitor. This season, the cost is $20 per skater/biker, $10 for each additional skater/biker in the same family, and a $40 cap for a family of three or more. A $2 day pass is also available. Register at the village office 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Monday through Friday. Download registration forms, rules, and waiver at
www.ortonvillevillage.com or pick up one at the office. Parent or legal guardian must be present with identification to register minors.
