Skiers finish #3

For the second year in a row both Clarkston’s girls and boys ski teams placed third at the State Finals.
Their lofty standing at states is not the only accomplishment the Wolves acheived this week, both teams added SEMSL and OAA league championships to the CHS trophy case.
‘I’m real happy with how everyone has skied,? said Clarkston Coach Bruce Rosengren.
After the slalom event, the Wolves? boys team was only five points out of first place. During the giant slalom, Petoskey and Marquette pulled away from Clarkston. Petoskey was the overall winner with 55 points, followed by Marquette (63) and Clarkston (87)
Skiing well for the Wolves were Alex Rosengren (fourth, giant slalom; fifth slalom), Eric Weiland (seventh, slalom), Jeff Haladik (10th, slalom) and Kevin Vahlbusch (11th, slalom).
On the girls side, Clarkston was without top skier Mo Weiland, but rose to third overall with a consistent team effort.
?(Their effort) was tremendous. I believed in their ablility, but I wouldn’t have believed coming in we could still finish third without Mo,? said Rosengren.
Traverse City Central won the girls competition with 50 points, followed by Marquette (66) and Clarkston (112).
Skiing well for the girls were Jennifer Stanton (11th, slalom), Alyssa Vermeulen (14th, slalom), and Trisha Peters (17th, giant slalom).
