Snow storm no problem for Oxford DPW

Oxford Village DPW Superintendent Don Brantley said there were no major problems handling the Jan. 14 snow storm that dumped approximately 10 inches on the Oxford area. “I believe everything went fairly well,” he said. It took the DPW 14 hours worth of regular time and overtime to clear all the streets, a task accomplished by between 9 and 10 a.m. the next day. The superintendent described the snow as “light” and “fluffy,” which means plows were able to move it with ease. Brantley did note that the 12 to 15 tons of road salt that was used on village streets “wasn’t as effective” as usual because of the extreme cold. Road salt doesn’t work well when the temperature is below 20 degrees Fahrenheit.
