A local resident’s appeal to Clarkston City Council over a ticket issued for not shoveling her sidewalk, Feb. 23, was unsuccessful.
She was charged $125 for violating the sidewalk snow removal ordinance, which was approved by city council in January.
Mayor Joe Luginski and council members Mike Sabol and Sharron Catallo voted not to rescind the ticket.
The Miller Road resident said a warning the city placed on her door blew away and she did not find it until later. She also contracted with a company to remove snow from her home as well as two other homes of relatives she helps care for.
The contactor will only visit when over 1.5 inches of snow falls.
Luginski said the city is not responsible for ensuring residents receive warning tags.
The woman asked why was she issued a ticket but other homes cleared by the same contractor were not.
She also told council she works hard to make sure her sidewalks are clear.
Council members Sharron Catallo and Richard Bisio voted to rescind the charge.
Catallo said she wanted to make sure the resident was not issued a ticket for sidewalks on property she does not own.
Officials promised the resident they would will look why the ticket was issued.
