Softball team loses Pieper final

The Lake Orion varsity softball team started out the week on May 2 with a 6-0 victory over Waterford Kettering, before ending the week on May 8 with a loss to Harper Woods Regina in the finals of the Fred Pieper Tournament.
Against Kettering, Nichole Woityra went 2-for-3 for the Dragons with two doubles, while Kristin Larsen was 2-for-3 with a homerun and three RBI.
The team started the Pieper Tournament on May 7 with victories over Berkley (15-2), Lapeer West (1-0) and Waterford Kettering (2-1) to earn a spot in the finals.
In nine innings against Lapeer West, Larsen drove in the game winning run on a fly, and had her ninth homerun of the year in the game against Berkley. Lauren LaPine was 8-for-12 in the series, and Woityra was 5-for-10.
The Dragons, ranked fifth in the state in Division I, took their 15-1-2 record up against Harper Woods Regina in the final game on May 8, losing 7-3.
Lake Orion was to have played against Regina in the final game of the Michigan Stars Tournament in Grand Blanc the previous weekend, but that game was called due to bad weather.
In in the finals of the Pieper Tournament, Larsen was 1-for-3 with two RBI and a scored run, while LaPine was 2-for-3 with a scored run.
Robin Roe pitched for Lake Orion, and Natalie Hunt was 1-for-3 for the team.
