Spikers hungry for a win after back-to-back losses

The varsity squad competed at Clio last Monday and beat the Mustangs in four games.
Senior captain Shana Jones had a steady night on the net tallying 16 kills in the game.
Senior captain Mykala Salquist and junior Kaitlin DuCharme both had 10 kills.
Oxford defeated Clio 25-20, 25-15, and 28-26 to notch the victory.
Last Thursday the Ladycats set out to avenge their previous loss to Lapeer West earlier in the season.
West is currently tied with Lapeer East for first in the league.
Unfortunately, Oxford came out flat and without much intensity and in doing so, handed the victory to West.
‘Every team has an off night and tonight was ours,? head coach Kristi McDevitt stated.
Oxford’s offense really never got off the ground and their defense was never controlled.
‘We were pushed back on our heels and one step behind all night,? McDevitt said. Jones and Salquist each had five kills.
Looking to recover from the West loss, Oxford set their focus on the Fenton Tigers in the Ian Smith Gymnasium on Monday.
The Ladycats started off strong and defeated Fenton in the first match of the night, but then their intensity dropped and fell in the second and third matches.
After winning the fourth match it again came down to the fifth and final game to decide the match.
Oxford came out slow and fell to a 5-0 deficit and never recovered fully and gave the match to the Tigers 15-11.
Mykala Salquist finished the night with 14 kills and 9 blocks, while Jones and junior Danielle Wicker each had 9 kills.
The loss moves Oxford to 6-5 in the league and 18-10-4 overall.
On a positive note, many Ladycats contributed at the net combining for 56 kills.
McDevitt credited libero Amanda Jolly with consistent defense and passing.
The Ladycats travel to Linden on Thursday.
