Local residents celebrated the grand opening of Orion Family Spinal Center located at 3385 Waldon Rd. on May 31. The facility is located directly behind the Baldwin Caf?.
The caf? donated more than 125 coney dogs for the celebration to everyone in attendance, including live music vocal artists We 3 and She, Jackie Priebe, Sydney Leigh, and SOOP.?
Anyone who signed up for an evaluation received their initial visit for $20, which includes an exam, consultation and X-ray. All proceeds from interested clients will be donated to local charity A Concert for Alayna.
Dr. Chris Bennett said he thinks he will extend the offer for the next few weeks.
‘I live here. I believe it’s my responsibility as a business owner to give back to the community,? Bennett said. ‘That’s part of being in the community. It was great to have everyone come out Saturday and enjoy themselves.?
Dr. Bennett graduated from Life University in Georgia in 2010, and opened his first practice on Waldon in October 2013. Before moving to Lake Orion he worked with another doctor at a practice in Georgia.
He is a chiropractor who specializes in upper cervical chiropractic work, mainly focusing on the relationship of the top two bones in the neck, the axis and atlas, and the brain stem.
‘When the head and neck are out of alignment it causes the body not to work properly because it interferes with brain stem function,? Bennett said. ‘So we have specific measurements or instruments that determine if there is a problem there and we correct it specifically with no twisting of the neck.?
Bennett took the upper-cervical route after he became very ill in chiropractic school.
?(Being sick) made me start looking at where disease comes from. We don’t just get a disease over night. It has to come back to function. If we are working correctly we have the cells to fight diseases such as cancer.?
That is why he turned to the brain stem, which is responsible for basic vital life functions such as breathing, heartbeat and blood pressure.
The procedures Bennett performs are designed for the patient’s body to hold an adjustment so they are not adjusted every visit.
‘It’s when the brain and brainstem are actually communicating with the body that the body starts to heal. So the goal is to get the adjustment to hold so you don’t always have to be corrected all of the time,? Bennett said.
He sees a variety of patients, from those with typical lower back and neck pain to people with headaches and migraines, kids with ADHD and ADD, patients with Fibromyalgia and vitamin B12 deficiencies and even patients with intestinal problems.
