The local community continues to rally around friends and family of Renee Przybylski in their attempt to fund a Spraypark in her honor.
Recently, the Clarkston Rotary donated $10,000 to the Spraypark committee which pushed their total raised to more than $100,000. The goal is to raise $153,000.
The $10,000 was a split contribution between current President Joel DeLong and incoming President John Hallaran. Each Rotary president has the opportunity to dedicate $4,000 to a worthy community project as their Presidential Project.
DeLong and Hallaran got together and determined the Spraypark was something of great community value and decided to commit their Presidential funds, in addition to another $2,000 from the club.
In addition to the Rotary donation, the Spraypark committee has two fundraisers set for January. This Saturday, Jan. 10, Outback Steakhouse will be sponsoring a Benefit Luncheon/Party for the Spraypark.
The menu includes cocktail style steak, chicken, ribs, bloomin? onions, cheese fries, coffee, pop and water. A cash bar will also be available. Tickets are $15 per person and all proceeds will be donated to the Spraypark. Tickets can not be purchased at the door.
‘They approached us with this idea,? Spraypark committee member Kelly Arcello said. ‘They have donated all the food and their staff has donated their time so all the proceeds will go to us.?
The event is from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Michigan State-Wisconsin game will be shown at noon and the Detroit Red Wings-Boston Bruins game is set for 1 p.m.
On Saturday, Jan. 31, the Knights of Columbus on Maybee Road will host a benefit bingo.
‘Once again they approached us with this idea. It is great the community is rallying behind this project,? Arcello said.
Przybylski was a camp counselor with the Independence Township Parks and Recreation. The Clarkston High School graduate lost a battle with leukemia in December, 2001. Her family and friends decided to raise money for a spraypark at Clintonwood Park in her honor.
