Spring is here and so is reading.
The Clarkston Schools ‘Spring Into Reading? program is once again knocking on school and libraries doors.
The ‘Spring into Reading? committee is comprised of media center specialists from Clarkston schools, librarians from the public libraries, teachers, parents and community members. The idea is to bring authors and illustrators into the community to visit Clarkston schools and help get students excited about reading.
Students will meet and hear presentations from authors, and see for themselves that writers are real people ? not just just a picture on a book cover. By seeing and hearing from the author, the children develop a personal perspective with the words on the pages of books.
Reading is a key fundamental element to a successful education. Your child will learn how to read in school, but also a great opportunity to plant seeds for growing the ‘love of reading.?
This year’s authors include: Nancy Carlson for Kindergarten – 1st grade; Lisa Wheeler for grades 2 and 3; Mark Crilley for grades 4 and 5; and Pam Flowers (from Alaska) for grades 6,7 and 8. These authors have met the criteria set by the ‘SIR? committee.
The authors will attend a fund-raising benefit dinner on April 26 at the Liberty Golf and Banquet Center. They will speak and sign books, which will be available for purchase. The authors will also be visiting the Independence Township Library on April 27 from 6 ? 8p.m.
