A new type of contract will save up to $42,000 for police services in Springfield Township.
The Township Board voted unanimously Dec. 10 to approve a “no-fill” contract for 2010 with Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.
“Fill” contracts require deputies calling in sick to be replaced, usually with a deputy on overtime, even if more than two deputies are on duty. The township requires at least two deputies on duty at all times.
Oakland County offered a savings of $25,000 for no-fill contract. Analysis by Sgt. Tim Willis, Springfield Township substation commander, estimated an additional savings of $17,000 from saved overtime costs.
