State champion on the lanes

Sophomore Nick Cooper ended his bowling season with a lucky strike ? several strikes.
He became the State Champion for boys bowling at the MHSAA Single Finals last Saturday.
The 14th seeded Cooper began the day taking on third seeded Tony Harger from Flint Carman-Ainsworth. He won the first game 258-248 and lost the second game 190-225.
Cooper still had a chance to turn it around and the third game both bowler matched each other, strike for strike.
Harger finished with nine straight strikes to a 268. Cooper tied with three strikes in the tenth frame.
The winner was decided in a two frame roll off where Cooper won, 57-50.
In his next game he beat Kurt Domke from Brownstown-Woodhaven in three games, 191-212, 231-180, and 233-177.
Cooper next competed in the semi-finals and won two games to continue to the final round.
He had to defeat John DiLaura of Warren DeLaSalle. DiLaura had already beat two of the best players in the tournament. But Cooper was ready and won two games, 226-213 and 216-193, to become the champion.
Pat Zuker competed in the in finals and finished in the 40th out of 70 bowlers.
‘He did get there and most bowlers can’t say that,? said Coach Bill George.
All of the boys competed in the team finals on Friday and finished in 13th. They missed the top eight by 117 pins.

Stephanie Lavely represented the Wolves at the girls single finals.
‘Although she did not make it into the top 16, she gained an experience that cannot be coached,? said Coach Rodney Pierson.
The freshman will be back next year and will use what she witnessed at the final to make it there again for the next three year.
‘She has an amazing ability and passion for the game which shows in her work ethic,? said Pierson.
