The Michigan Liquor Control Commission (LCC) informed Oxford Township last week that it revoked the liquor license held by Family Restaurants of America, Inc., which operated the now-defunct Zim’s Irish Diner and Irish Tavern, formerly of 1350 S. Lapeer Road. The bar, which was operated by Joe and Susan Zimmer, closed in January 2002.
Numerous alleged violations of both local ordinances and liquor control regulations, brought to light via an undercover investigation by the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department, led the Oxford Township Board in February 2002 to recommend to the LCC that Zim’s liquor license be not renewed and revoked.
“I believe justice was served,” said township Supervisor Bill Dunn. “Joe told me the township put him out of business and I said, ‘No Joe, you put yourself out of business.'”
