Stimulus list grows

A second new senior center is on a list of new stimulus ideas for Independence Township.
If approved, the new center would be built on Clarkston Road property between Independence Township Library and school administration building, costing $2 million. The new senior center in Clintonwood Park would be used by Parks and Recreation for day Camps.
Other ideas approved for the list at the March 11 special meeting included a secondary entrance and land acquisition for Clintonwood Park for $2 million and safety-path expansion for $1million.
‘I think of all of them, the safety paths is the best because it creates jobs to build the path, it will connect the township’s paths to other townships like Lake Orion, it encourages people to bike and walk and get out of their cars,? said Trustee David Lohmeier, who called the meeting.
Trustees Larry Rosso, Mark Petterson and Neil Wallace also attended.
‘Some of the requirements of the stimulus stuff has matching contributions element to it and we have a safety path fund that we could say we have funds to match, so to me that’s the one we have the best shot and can’t believe we didn’t stick in the first time when it went around,? Lohmeier said.
The trustees voted to add the proposals to a list of requests including a highway bridge and roundabout on Sashabaw Road, and sewer reconstruction.
