A pile of stolen property left on the Polly Ann Trail led to the arrest of an alleged burglar.
Timothy David Peacy, 30, of Lake Orion, was charged with two felony counts of first-degree home invasion.
If convicted, he faces up to 20 years in prison.
Peacy is currently being lodged in the Oakland County Jail in lieu of a $25,000 bond.
At the time of his arrest, Peacy had a warrant out for him regarding a probation violation. He was previously convicted for possession of drug paraphernalia.
He’s accused of burglarizing two homes on Tanview Dr. in the early morning hours of Thursday, Oct. 3.
Peacy allegedly took items from those homes, such as a couple television sets and some assorted electronics, and piled them on a nearby section of the trail, just north of W. Drahner Rd.
‘In the same area, we found Mr. Peacy, hiding in the ditch next to the trail,? said Oakland County Sheriff’s Det. Jason Louwaert. ‘He claimed that he’s homeless and was walking down the trail and he was tired, so he went down into the wooded area to fall asleep.?
The items on the trail were reported to the sheriff’s department at about the same time deputies were in the area investigating one of the home invasions.
‘I think he was hiding it on the trail, so it could be picked up later,? Louwaert said.
The homeowners were asleep at the time Peacy was allegedly robbing them.
A third home invasion was reported at the house between the two that Peacy allegedly burglarized. Nothing was reported stolen from that home.
Louwaert said a woman in the third Tanview home saw Peacy.
‘At the time, she thought it was her husband, so she didn’t call right away, but then later on, she figured out it must have been somebody that shouldn’t have been there,? he said.
The detective said the prosecutor decided not to charge Peacy on that burglary because ‘we didn’t have any property tieing him to that house.?
Louwaert said Peacy admitted to being a heroin user and ‘doing things to fund his heroin habit.? However, he did not confess to these burglaries.
Peacy is a suspect in another home invasion that occurred Oct. 1 on Stanton Rd.
He told investigators that he had been sleeping on a bench in Powell Lake Township Park behind the Oxford Public Library.
The next day, property stolen from the Stanton Rd. home was recovered near a park bench there, according to Louwaert.
Peacy has not been charged in that home invasion. ‘That one’s still under investigation,? Louwaert said.
The only item for which Louwaert has been unable to locate the owner is a Toshiba laptop computer. It doesn’t match any reported stolen property. ‘It is password-protected, so if they can come up here and unlock this computer, then I’ll be happy to return it to them,? the detective said.
Louwaert noted Peacy allegedly entered all three Tanview homes through unlocked doors.
‘People think they live in a peaceful community and for the most part, they’re right, but you still have to lock your doors even though this is Oxford,? he said. ‘If you lock your stuff up, you’re going to greatly decrease the odds that somebody’s going to steal your stuff.?
The burglar in the Stanton Rd. home invasion gained access to the house through the attached garage. The intruder used a garage door opener removed from an unlocked vehicle, according to Louwaert.
