The Wildcats varsity girls Tennis ended their season after placing eighth out of 12 teams at MHSAA (Michigan High School Athletic Association) Regionals on May 17, which Head Coach Gayle Bailey couldn’t be more proud about.
‘We didn’t come in last place and there was some crazy competition,? Bailey said. ‘Clarkston who took first, Farmington Hills Mercy took second and West Bloomfield took third. Those are tough teams with a longstanding tennis community for as long as I can remember.?
Singles Katherine Labombard and Aviana Paese and doubles Hannah Yoo and Kristen Myers all won their first matches on the day.
‘They advanced to second round and lost but they won and scored points for our team and the rest of the girls hung in there,? Bailey said. ‘I am glad they got a chance to experience regionals. Hopefully that got them amped up to play tennis in the off season and come back a lot stronger and a lot wiser and a lot smarter tennis players and maybe we can make it to states sometime.?
The Lady Wildcats ended their season with a winning record of 4-3-1.
‘We had a winning season and for our first crack at it that’s pretty awesome,? noted Bailey. ‘We could have easily been 0-8 and no one would have batted an eye because we are a first time team and first time players.?
Bailey said her girls have ‘caught the bug? because they all want to do summer camps.
‘I am extremely proud of all the girls and for the community,? she said. ‘I am excited for next year because I know we’re going to come back a lot tougher, stronger and come out a lot harder.?
