The Lake Orion Schools Dragon Guided Activities Program (GAP) recently completed two week-long Extreme Adventure Camps and a Police Academy Camp for Lake Orion middle school students. Sixty-four students participated in the exciting weeklong camps.
The Extreme Adventure Camp explored a different outdoor adventure focus each day. Camp participants experienced the LOHS low and high ropes courses, a SCUBA diving clinic hosted by the Divers Den, Outdoor living skills (shelter & fire building and orienteering) canoeing skills, and an end of week GAP survivor challenge.
The GAP Police Academy Camp partnered with the Lake Orion Village Police Department and the Oakland County Sheriff Department and covered various divisions within each law enforcement department. Students went through the rigors of physical fitness challenges, self-defense techniques, and air soft weapons training. Likewise, the campers joined Lake Orion Village Police Department Lt. Harold Rossman for interview, interrogation, and booking procedures as well as traffic enforcement procedures. The Oakland County Sheriff Canine Unit also gave an impressive demonstration to the campers.
To top off the week the students sat in on court cases with 52-3 District Court Judges Julie Nicholson and Lisa Asadorian followed by a Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) simulation with Waldon Middle School teacher Jon Gray.
All in all the students in each of the camps experienced a great deal of learning and fun.
