Dear Editor:
(In response to, ‘Debate over schools of choice: Boom or bust?,? The Citizen, March 7, page 1):
I take it as a personal and racist attack on myself and neighbors with Brandon Superintendent Lorrie McMahon’s comments regarding schools of choice bringing racial diversity to a community that is mostly white.
The superintendent should apologize to the citizens of Brandon Township and be disciplined by the board of education for such an outlandish statement.
She was not hired and the board of education was not elected to bring diversity to the area.
If I had known the district was going to recruit 320 out-of-district students I would not have supported the bond issue. I do not feel my tax dollars should be used for facilities for out-of-district students.
If the board lived within their budget, they would not need the $2 million brought in by these students. I know the board’s response will be that there is no extra cost involved with these students. Anyone with common sense knows this would not be the case.
