An Oxford couple landed in the hospital Sunday, Dec. 1 after a suspected drunken driver slammed into their vehicle on S. Coats Rd., north of W. Drahner Rd.
The victims, a 60-year-old man and his 58-year-old wife, had just pulled out of their driveway in their 2009 Saturn Vue and began heading south on S. Coats Rd. when their vehicle was struck from behind by a 1997 GMC pickup truck traveling at a high rate of speed, according to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department.
A 29-year-old Auburn Hills man was driving the pickup truck. In the sheriff’s report, it was stated he was ‘visibly intoxicated? and ‘smelled of alcohol.?
No warrants have been issued as investigators are awaiting the results of a blood test.
The pickup truck hit the Vue with such force that it caused the SUV to flip onto its hood and skid. The truck continued on for a short distance and struck a tree.
The couple had to be extricated from the Vue by Oxford firefighters. They were transported to the hospital with multiple injuries and are currently in stable condition.
The Auburn Hills driver only sustained minor injuries. His passenger, a 28-year-old Oxford man, sustained a head injury and was transported to the hospital, the report stated.
