Swimmers join Team Michigan for championship

Three swimmers from the Clarkston Sea Wolves joined Team Michigan to compete at the Central Zone Championship swim meet in Geneva, Ohio, Aug. 2-4.
Emma Barnes, Kelsey Gilbert and Caroline Hughes each qualified for the meet and competed for Team Michigan.
Hughes led the Wolves with five qualifying events in the 50-yard, 100-yard and 200-yard backstroke events and 100-yard and 200-yard freestyle events. She was also selected to swim on one of the Michigan relay teams. She finished in the top 20 in all three backstroke events, 46th in the 100-yard freestyle and 40th in the 200 freestyle.
Gilbert competed in the 800-yard and 400-yard freestyle events and finished 13th and 24th respectively. Barnes swam the 50-yard freestyle, finishing 55th in a competitive field of nearly 70 swimmers. The entire field for the 50-yard freestyle was separated by less than three seconds.
The Central Zone meet included athletes and teams from Michigan, Indiana, Illinois and Ohio. Swimmers must achieve specified time standards for events within their respective age groups of 10 years and under, 11-12 and 13-14 to qualify for the meet.
