Last Friday, community members came out to Leo’s Coney Island to raise and donate money for Taylor Woityra, who suffers from Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.
Woityra was found to have Hodgkin’s Lymphoma after having a baby in December.
Since then, the family has struggled with medical and living expenses.
This summer, Woityra was going through chemotherapy treatments when she developed a fever and trouble breathing in early July.
She was taken to a hospital and then airlifted to University of Michigan’s hospital. There they discovered she had pneumonia and some elements in the chemotherapy caused some issues.
Woityra resides at U of M, where she continues to recuperate.
The family is very optimistic when it comes to Woityra’s recovery.
Her mother, Bridget Woityra said, ‘She did smile and mouthed ‘I love you? the other day.?
During the Leo’s fundraiser, 10 percent receipts and waitress’s tips were given to Woityra’s family, in addition to donations from customers.
Manager Sara Langs and Woityra’s cousin, Kylee, who is a waitress at Leo’s, went to local business asking for donations for an auction that was held during the fundraiser.
PX2 Automotive, Forrester’s Car Wash, MMB graphics, World of Beans, Glitz, Mr. C’s car wash and Lee Nails donated products, gift cards and coupons to be handed out and auctioned during the fundraiser. The event raised a total of $3,340.
‘It was amazing to see how generous people were,? Langs said. ‘Everybody just came together.?
The Woityra family is very thankful for all the community members that came out to support Taylor’s condition and help with overwhelming expenses, according to Bridget Woityra.
