Tennis finishes seasons strong

Girls? Varsity Tennis Coach Gayle Bailey is ‘one proud Mamma Bear.?
After finishing up a strong season at Regionals last week, Bailey said she was happy.
‘We had a great season, the girls did amazing,? she said. ‘It’s the hardest region in the state so we were up against some really world class tennis on a high school level. I couldn’t be more proud of these kids.?
At regionals number one doubles (Rebekah Krol and Lakin Felix) and number four doubles (Chloe Straub and Hannah Yoo) advanced to the second round, while number three doubles (Sierra Wallington and Angela Savich) who went undefeated in the league a week earlier lost a three setter to Rochester High.
The girls ended their season with a 5-1 record in the league matches with a loss to Royal Oak.
‘At the league tournament we lost by 2 points to Royal Oak,? said Bailey. ‘It literally came down to the last match.?
The only frustrating part of the season, noted Bailey was the weather.
‘Apparently Mother Nature doesn’t like tennis,? she added with a laugh. ‘One our conditioning days early in the season was ‘bring your boots, we’re going to stomp on the snow and help it melt sooner.? We were throwing ice chunks like they were discs.?
While the team will be losing four seniors this year, who Bailey is ‘tremendously going to miss,? she looks to fill in the gaps next season, but looking back at this season all she can do is smile.
‘We got all league matches in and did really well at league tournament, placing second and we took first at one of our tournaments? she said. ‘We did exceptionally well for the little time we had together, just scrambling to get a team together and we all came together and were successful.?
