‘The A Team? propels Wildcat swimmers to victory

A slogan for a popular eighties comedy-action on NBC went like this: ‘If you have a problem, and if no one else can help, and if you find them, maybe you can hire…the A Team.?
That’s because two of the Oxford Wildcat swimmers? A Relay Teams picked up first-place honors at their Oct. 14 swim meet against Holly, where Oxford won easily, 117-69, to move to 3-1 in the Flint Metro League.
No, these A Teams don’t consist of Colonel John ‘Hannibal? Smith, Lieutenant Templeton ‘Faceman? Peck, Captain H.M. ‘Howling Mad? Murdock or Sergeant Bosco ‘B.A.? Baracus, and they’re not wanted by military police for a crime they didn’t commit’unless one of those ‘crimes? is the setting of yet another record.
In the 400-Yard Free Relay, the A Relay Team of Anna Daves, Ellen Saville, Allison Woonton and Jenna Mallard set a new school record with a time of 4:13.35 and a first-place finish.
The foursome broke their old record, set last year, which had been 4:15.66.
This A Team also finished second in the 200-Yard Medley Relay.
The other A Relay Team, consisting of Jennie Sunman, Kristin Simmers, Claire Patrell and Sarah Skelton, finished first in the 200-Yard Free Relay with a time of 2:03.26.
As it has been the past several races, the Wildcats dominated the pool by earning eight first-place and seven second-place finishes.
Living up to her aquatic bird surname, Mallard earned three first-place finishes (two individual and one team). Also earning three first-place finishes (two individual and one team) was Woonton.
Earning two second-place finishes for the Wildcats was Sarah Skelton.
In the 200-Yard Medley Relay, Oxford took second and third place. The A Relay Team of Mallard, Woonton, Patrell and Daves was touched out by Holly’s A Relay Team by half a second. Oxford’s A’s finished with a time of 2:10.13. The B Relay Team of Saville, Emily Gilmore, Simmers, and Skelton came in third.
In the 200-Yard Free, Oxford took first, second and fourth. Mallard finished first at 2:17.58, Skelton came in second while Kaitlyn Kimmel finished fourth.
In the 200-Yard Individual Medley, the Wildcats swam to first, third and fifth-place finishes. Woonton took first at 2:25.99, Patrell snuck in for third in a come-from-behind effort to touch out a Holly swimmer and Caroline Kerbelis finished fifth.
In the 50-Yard Free, Daves finished third at 29.10 while Saville finished fourth.
In diving, Oxford made quite the splash as Lindsay Sutherland took first while Olivia Martin took second and Molly Bonfiglio took fourth place.
In the 100-Yard Butterfly, Patrell swam to a first-place finish at 1:11.77 while Simmers came in third and Sunman followed at fourth.
Oxford didn’t finish first in the 100-Yard Free, but they did follow quickly behind. Daves swam to second place with a 1:04.49 time. Saville finished third while Rikki Jarvis came in fourth.
In the 500-Yard Free, Skelton’s 6:29.28 time earned her second-place honors. Kimmel finished third and Kerbelis fourth.
The Wildcats then went on to take first place in the final four swims.
