On the advice of their attorney who had some issues with the agreement, Lake Orion Village Council members decided not to sign a Main Street Oakland County Program Agreement.
Attorney Gary Dovre believes the agreement isn’t necessary. In a letter to the council, he said when the village filled out and sent in its 2001 application to be part of the Main Street Program, it was agreeing then to comply with all the requirements of the program.
LO Village Manager JoAnn Van Tassel told council members participation in Main Street probably wouldn’t be jeopardized. According to Van Tassel, the village might have to pay a nominal fee for some programs that now are offered for free.
‘The county can pull out of this (Main Street) anytime. I think they have 30 days,? coucilman Tom Albert said at the Feb. 9 council meeting. ‘They could look at cutting this down the road. I don’t think it matters if we sign or not.?
Dovre’s views on the agreement will be sent on to Bob Donohue, program coordinator for Main Street Oakland County.
