Things are going swimmingly for Oxford team

The Boys Varsity Swim & Dive have kicked off their season with a 1-1 record, so far after defeating North Farmington 108-78 last week.
As far as what to expect the rest of the season, Head Coach Jackie Rank isn’t quite sure.
‘But the athletes are excited and willing to learn, and I think we are going to see some great times and scores,? Rank said.
As far as meets go, Rank noted that her boys love all dual meets and league meets.
‘Some of my veteran athletes are looking forward to the higher levels of competition in the Oakland County Meet and the State Meet. We are planning on return visits from diver Jared Tasch and swimmer Cheyne Stresky,? she added. ‘We are also hoping for some other individuals to make their cuts for these two high-profile meets, like Sean Terry, Armando Vega, Chad Scribner, etc.?
Rank had 20 boys return this season and is looking for good things out of junior Captain: Jake Tasch, senior Captains: Jared Tasch, Chad Scribner, and Cheyne Stresky.
‘We have quite a bit of talent and my trouble is figuring out where I would like to see them compete, since many of my athletes could be shuffled around into different events,? she said. ‘It is a great ‘issue? to face.?
Rank also welcomed two new divers and four new swimmers to the team this year.
‘They have a lot of enthusiasm and drive,? she said. ‘They are at very different ability levels, but they are striving towards the next level each practice.?
‘We also have a new addition to our coaching staff in Amber Golden. She is my assistant swimming coach for this boys? season,? she added. ‘Glen Walker will still be assisting on a volunteer basis and our volunteer diving coach will still be Lou Lopez.?
The strengths of the team are ‘a great attitude with talent in all events.?
As far as the league goes, Rank isn’t entirely sure what to expect there either, but the goal of the season is have more athletes qualifying for the Oakland County Meet and the Division I State Meet.
‘We lost quite a few talented seniors and we are still in the white division. I’m hoping that we can surprise some teams that may have written us off,? Rank said. ‘We have a great team and I’m really looking forward to this season.?
The boys next home meet will be Jan. 15 at the Oxford High School natatorium against Rochester. Start time is 6 p.m.
