Clarkston’s retailers are thinking pink in October to encourage locals to remember Breast Cancer Awareness month. For their Paint the Town Pink: A Ladies Night Out event, downtown retailers are partnering with Swan for Life Cancer Foundation to raise awareness and collect donations.
On Thursday, Oct. 18 from 5-8 p.m., retailers will not only be decking out their stores in shades of pink, but they’re hoping shoppers start thinking pink too.
‘We’ll be offering a special discount for ladies wearing pink,? said Christina Calka of Village Fashion Boutique. But Ladies Night isn’t just for women.
‘Anybody who wears pink will get a discount,? said Calka. Some shops will even offer pink treats. For example, Calka intends to serve up cotton candy to those who stop by.
Retailers participating will have donation jars at the ready for patrons who want to support Swan for Life Cancer Foundation, which provides free education, support and resources to cancer patients, families, caregivers and friends in Southeastern Michigan.
‘Hopefully, it’s going to be a great event,? said Peg Roth.
Nineteen retailers have signed up to participate, and they plan to ‘do as much pink as we can do,? said Roth. Shops will be selling pink T-shirts for $10 a piece, and all the proceeds will go to Swan for Life.
Both Calka and Roth are looking forward to a fun event made even better because it is for ‘a great cause,? said Calka. Look to advertisements in this week’s CNews and Penny Stretcher for more information.
