Three wins for lady sluggers

Oxford’s long-suffering softball got a glimpse of some light at the end of the tunnel by racking up three solid victories against FML opponents.
On Monday, the ladies sent Holly home with two defeats.
The Cats beat them 4-3 and 9-6.
In the first game, Senior Lauren LaCroix went 3 for 3 with 1 run scored, senior Sarah Paszko went 3 for 4 with 1 RBI and Junior Sarah Kessler went 2 for 3.
Coach Sue Roeher noted the team made a ‘great comeback? in the seventh inning, scoring two runs to win the game.
LaCroix started the inning with a single. Sophomore Allie Laidlaw bunted to get LaCroix to second base. Sophomore Corinne Luxton then singled Luxton in to tie it up 3-3.
Sophomore Kelly Cartner bunted Luxton to second base. Paszko then ‘ripped a shot? past the first baseman leading Luxton to score the winning run.
In game two, Cartner went 2 for 3 with 2 runs scores, freshman Alyssa Hurtado went 1 for 3 with 2 RBIs and 1 run scored, Allie Laidlaw went 2 for 3 with 1 RBI and 1 run scored, LaCroix went 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored, and Luxton went 3 for 4 with 2 RBIs.
Roeher said the team ‘came out swinging? for this game thanks to the ‘momentum? from the first contest.
On Thursday, the ladies split a doubleheader with Lapeer east, losing the first game 5-3, but coming back to win the second by the amazing score of 15-2.
Roeher said the team’s pitchers received ‘huge run support? with 13 hits between the two games.
Sophomore Corinne Luxton went 4 for 6 on the day with 4 RBIs and three runs scored. She also hit her fifth home run of the season.
Allie Laidlaw who’s back from her injury as a designated hitter went 3 for 3 with 3 RBIs and 3 runs scored.
LaCroix went 2 for 3 with 1 run scored, while Paszko went 1 for 2 with 1 RBI. Sophomore Chelsea Kessler went 2 for 3 with 3 runs scored.
‘Luxton continues to do a better than average job on the mound,? Roeher said. ‘Nicole Laidlaw pitched two great innings, too.?
The team’s overall record is now 8-14. In the FML, the ladies are 3-7.
