15 YEARS AGO (1990)
? Shopping center (finally) gets commission OK: A 100,000 square-foot shopping center, slated for the southwest corner of Sashabaw and Waldon roads, cleared a one-and-a-half-year hurdle May 10 by receiving final site plan approval from the Independence Township planning commission.
On a unanimous vote7-0, the planning commission recommended that the project go before the township board for final approval.
? Charges likely for SJHS teen found with gun: A 14-year-old Sashabaw Junior High School student is facing civil charges and possible suspension for brandishing a pistol at school, on Friday, May 11.
According to Assistant Principal Vince Licata, a couple of students reported to him that they saw the youth carrying the .25 caliber pistol in his pocket. Junior high officials immediately called the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department and charged the youth with carrying a concealed weapon.

? Ontario plane crash claims three lives: The crash of a single-engine airplane claimed the lives of three members of a Clarkston family and left the fourth member with severe injuries when their plane was forced to land in a rocky field new Owens Sound, Ontario, Friday evening.
Dead are Robert Dobson, 37, and his children Timothy, 15, and Jennifer, 11.
Dobson and his daughter were dead at the scene and his son died at the hospital.
50 YEARS AGO (1955)
? Work Progresses On Athletic Field: The lighted athletic field could wait no longer for the long over-due rain, so on Monday afternoon some of the fireman came up and soaked the seeded and graded field to start the grass germinating.
Last week several men from around town and some students came up in the evening and gave the field a final going over.
‘May Festival At Andersonville: The children of Andersonville Elementary School will present a program of folk dancing and games, assisted by the Junior Band, Friday afternoon, May 20, at 1:30 p.m. on the lawn at the school.
