Congratulations to Tom Gillis, of Oxford, for winning the 91st Michigan Open last week at the Grand Traverse Resort and Spa in Acme.
The 39-year-old former PGA Tour player earned his second Michigan Open title June 12 by shooting an even-par 72 for the day.
Gillis finished the four-day tournament with a 13-under-par total of 274.
In doing so, he won $10,500 of the $85,000 purse.
It was Gillis? 1994 win in the Michigan Open that helped launch his long professional career, which includes stints on the PGA Tour.
The journeyman lost his playing status on the PGA Tour in 2005 after battling injury and illness the year before.
Gillis then failed to earn enough to keep his Nationwide Tour card.
He considered quitting, but encouragement from friends kept him in the game.
He currently has partial status on the PGA and Nationwide tours.
Gillis hopes to qualify for the Buick Open June 23-29 at the Warwick Hills Golf and Country Club in Grand Blanc, then head back out on the Nationwide Tour.
