Township master plan review

At 7 p.m., May 20 the Atlas Township Planning Commission will host a public hearing at the Goodrich Middle School Cafetorium, 7480 Gale Road, Goodrich to review the township master plan. The master plan, which is reviewed every five years, is a guide for land use in the community it serves.
Rick Misek, Atlas Township planning chairman, said the land use plan has changed very little since 1996 and was last updated in 2002.
‘The biggest difference is the changes in demographics,? said Misek. ‘In addition, the planning standards that form the structure of the master plan are updated. Other changes include future land use along areas near major thoroughfares, bordering Grand Blanc Township which have increased in planned density.?
The township master plan was also reviewed by neighboring municipalities including, Brandon, Davison, Grand Blanc, Groveland, Hadley and Holly townships. Also, the village of Goodrich, along with the Genesee County Metro Planning Commission, the Shiawasee, Genesee, Lapeer Regional Planning Commission, Consumers Energy and Charter Communications.
‘We had no comment from any community regarding the master plan,? he said. ‘That’s a good sign’the plan is consistent with other communities,? he said. ‘At the rate we are going there will be ample space for both commercial and industrial growth. The natural characteristics is the key driver in the master plan.?
