Track team ends regular season undefeated

Nobody in the OAA I has been able to derail the Clarkston girls track team.
The Wolves have barreled through the competition so far this season and finished the dual meet season undefeated by toppling Rochester and West Bloomfield last week.
At 7-0 the Wolves are in the driver seat in the OAA I. The dual meet season counts as half of the overall championship, with the OAA meet counting as the other half.
‘We are excited,? Clarkston Head Coach John Yorke said. ‘Regardless of how it affects the final standings, I know they wanted to go undefeated for their own confidence. They wanted to beat everybody. Winning is always a good thing.?
The Wolves closest meet of the season was against West Bloomfield on May 9. Clarkston defeated the Lakers 69-59 thanks to a victory in the 1600-meter relay. If the Wolves failed to win the 1600-meters, the meet would have been a tie.
Clarkston won the opening event against the Lakers, but then lost the next three before Jenny Morgan won the 1600-meters and the 400-meter relay team took care of business.
West Bloomfield won four of the next five events before the Wolves were able to clinch the victory in the final event.
Clarkston did not have as much trouble with Rochester on May 11. The Wolves defeated the Falcons 76-52 and won 10 of the 16 events.
Autumn Touchstone delivered in four events for the Wolves. Touchstone won the long jump, the 110-meter hurdles, the 300-meter hurdles and was a member of the winning 800-meter relay team.
‘Autumn Touchstone had a good day,? Yorke said. ‘She sticks out in my mind. She was solid in all of her races. In the long jump and both hurdle races she did a real nice job, and she probably ran the best leg I’ve seen all season in the four by two.?
With the dual meets wrapped up, the Wolves can now concentrate on the postseason.
Clarkston will begin the postseason on May 19 when they head to Holly for regionals.
Clarkston won regionals last season and would like to repeat as champions. The Wolves main competition will be Grand Blanc, Lake Orion and Rochester Adams. Yorke said the team wants to send as many kids as possible to the state finals.
‘Hopefully in all the distance races we have some girls who qualify,? Yorke said. ‘We would also like to qualify for the hurdles, long jump, high jump and we are really hoping for our sprint relay teams to qualify this year. Honestly, we would like to qualify for every event. Realistically, out of 17 events I think we could qualify for 15 of those.?
The Wolves will attempt to reclaim the league title on May 23 at the OAA meet and then will take part in the Oakland County meet at South Lyon on May 26.
