Traffic stop leads to chase in Addison

A routine traffic stop by an Oakland County Sheriff’s deputy in Addison Township turned into a car chase early Tuesday morning.
As a result, Robert Michael Strasburg, 20, of Orion, is facing charges of fleeing and eluding law enforcement and operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.
According to the sheriff’s department, at 12:20 a.m. a deputy attempted to stop an older model Mercedes near Rochester and Brewer roads, when the driver, Strasburg, allegedly fled the scene.
During the pursuit, Strasburg allegedly swerved towards the deputy’s patrol vehicle in an attempt to make a wide turn into Hidden Lakes Estates mobile home park.
The sheriff’s report indicated the Mercedes made contact with the patrol car’s push bumper and went into a spin.
The Mercedes came to rest on top of a large boulder at the park’s entrance.
Both Strasburg and his passenger were taken into custody. Strasburg was transported by the Addison Twp. Fire Dept. to Crittenton Hospital in Rochester with minor injuries.
According to Sheriff’s Sgt. Randy Praski, there was a warrant out for Strasburg’s arrest related to a 2006 aggravated assault case.
The sergeant speculated that’s the reason Strasburg allegedly fled the traffic stop.
Strasburg was arraigned on this older charge in Rochester Hills 52-3 District Court before Judge Nancy Carniak.
He’s currently being held in the Oakland County Jail in lieu of a $1,000 bond.
The passenger was cooperative and was released, according to the sheriff’s department.
