TUMF unhappy with GCC decision

Bill McMaster, Chairman of the Taxpayers United Michigan Foundation, spoke to the Orion Township Board recently about the decision to levy property taxes from the Gingellville Community Center.
McMaster was displeased by the way the township handled the situation, saying they didn’t have the legal power to do some of the things they did regarding the GCC.
Clerk Jill Bastian said that while she was disappointed with the outcome of the case, the state exemption is different than a federal 501(c)3 exemption, a fact she said has confused many of the parties involved.
Supervisor Jerry Dywasuk said the matter is completely out of the board’s hands.
‘If anybody has an argument, they need to go to the state with this issue,? he said.
