The Oxford girl’s golf team met up with the league rival, Linden this past Monday on the Eagles home course.
Flint Carmen Ainsworth dropped in on the action in an apparent scheduling conflict to add even more pressure to the Ladycats.
Linden emerged victorious over Oxford in a hard fought battle on the links. Oxford was defeated by only 3 strokes, scoring 201 to Linden’s low score of 198. Oxford’s score was enough to defeat Carmen-Ainsworth (211) in the tri-meet. Low scorer on the night was Senior Beth Hubbard with 47 strokes. Senior Samara Carroll shot a 50, Junior Stephanie Hiltunen a 51, and Junior Karen Offer shot a 53.
Oxford’s record improved to 4-1 overall, 1-1 in the FML.
With their Wednesday match against Clawson postponed until a later date, the Ladycats then traveled to Birmingham Marion’s Stoneycroft Golf Course for their next outing. The Mustangs proved too much for the Ladycats in the non-league match-up, defeating Oxford 203 to 215. Junior Karen Offer had the low score of 50. The rest of the pack was not too far behind with Beth Hubbard and Christy Schiffman both shooting a 54, and Samara Carroll had 57 strokes. The loss dropped the Ladycats record to 4-2 overall.
The Ladycats have a very busy upcoming week. On April 18, Oxford will travel to the Flint Elk’s course for the Flint Metro League Meet.
Coach Terry Kelley is anticipating tough competition from Ortonville-Brandon, Fenton, and of course, a re-match with rival Linden. On April 19, the Ladycats then head to Pontiac Country Club to compete in the Oakland County Division I outing.
