Oxford Township officials last week voted 5-1 to contribute the standard 5 percent toward the resurfacing of some roads in the Country View Estates subdivision located off Baldwin Road, across from the west side of Seymour Lake Road.
A valid petition to establish a Special Assessment District (SAD) among residents of the Phase 1 subdivision to finance the re-paving of Estate Drive, Broad Meadow Drive and a small section of Country View Drive was submitted to the Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC), according to Estate Drive resident Leslie Kwaneski.
The petition contained signatures from more than 51 percent of the Phase 1 residents living along those roads.
The validity of the petition was confirmed via a Jan. 23 letter from Dennis C. Acre, supervisor of the Subdivision Improvement and Development Division of the RCOC, to township Supervisor Bill Dunn.
Kwaneski wrote a Jan. 22 letter to the township requesting the “usual 5 (percent) donation” toward the project.
Kwaneski told township officials the roads in question are more than 30 years old. The preliminary cost estimate for repaving them is approximately $143,000. Based on that cost estimate, the township’s 5 percent contribution would amount to approximately $7,150
Township officials voted 5-1 to appropriate the 5 percent contribution from the municipality’s Road Fund.
“I was very happy they did that,” Kwaneski said.
A meeting to explain the project, its cost and hear any objections is scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 23 at Clear Lake Elementary School.
