Trustees on the Addison Township Board upheld the planning commission’s recommendation to rezone the former Mount Grampion ski hill from a recreational parcel to 5-acre rural residential.
“No one is interested in the property for 5-acre development,” said a representative from Angelo’s Crushed Concrete, the owner of the parcel.
Angelo’s Crushed Concrete approached the Addison Township planning commission with an application to rezone the land from recreational to suburban estates, or 3-acre parcels, a few months ago. However, planning commission members did not feel this would be in line with the master plan and decided to present the 5-acre option instead.
Angelo’s Crushed Concrete has owned the property for the past 10 years. To date, the owner has had an offer to use the area as a BMX bike race track.”We have respected the desires of the community and discouraged this development,” said the representative.
“You can not unilaterally change the zoning,” he stated to officials. “We did not request 5-acres, that is not what we asked for.”
After the township board upheld the planning commission’s recommendation, the representative left the meeting quite displeased.
Addison Township officials have not heard from the company since the rezoning.
