Dear Editor,
(In response to ‘Freedom of speech or offensive,? The Citizen, July 2, page 1):
Thank you for this article. I, for one, am happy to have missed the display by PAC volunteers. They have the right to do this, have you seen the truck around the area? It isn’t really any different, only as far as I know the driver isn’t passing out any pamphlets or information for any particular group. I feel the mustache is a bit outrageous, but again, they are allowed to express their opinions, and if we don’t like to see or hear them we don’t have to look or listen. What really made me respond to the article was the comment ?…he said the U.S. was no longer a Christian nation.? Can we please get our history facts straight? The U.S. was never a Christian nation. The nation was founded on the ability to practice whatever religion was chosen by each person without prosecution. It was NOT founded on Christianity, just like if you talk to those born before the 1950s you’ll likely find the Pledge of Allegiance was taught to them, differently than those born later, due to the fact that before 1954 the words ‘one nation under God? were not part of it. You can say what you like, this is a country that holds free speech in very high regard, just please remember to show others the same respect that you demand when you use that right, when they use it in return.
