Varsity basketball team struggles as the post-season approaches

After finishing off their regular season schedule with losses against Royal Oak Kimball and Oak Park, the Lake Orion varsity boys basketball team will look for a victory in the post-season as district competition began Feb. 28.
Against Kimball on Feb. 22, the Dragons lost a close overtime game, 53-52. This loss extended their losing streak to five games, even as the Dragons dominated the first quarter, leading 16-8.
The Knights went up 21-20, but Lake Orion regained the lead, 23-21, before halftime. The Dragons also claimed the third quarter, leading 33-29.
Six turnovers during the last two quarters of the game slowed down Lake Orion, but they were able to hold onto the lead until Kimball tied the game, 41-41, with just 10 second left in regulation.
Chris O’Dea scored the Dragons? first overtime basket, after Kimball scored seven points.
Neary had two 3-point shots for the Lake Orion team, and they trailed by only one with 4.3 second left in overtime.
However, a half-court shot at the buzzer fell short, and the victory went to Kimball.
O’Dea led the Dragons with 13 points and seven rebounds, while Neary finished with 12. Justin Smith had 10 points.
Lake Orion ended their regular season with a loss to Oak Park, 86-77, on Feb. 25.
In that game, O’Dea again led the team, with 19 points, while freshman Drew Maynard had 15.
Smith had 11 points for the Dragons, while Jon Krause, Kojo Asiedu and Brad Neary each had six.
